When I first had the idea for this website back in 2003, I had a few other priorities…a growing family and a full-time job that kept me busy well beyond 40 hours per week.
In 2008, I finally found a little bit of free time and set off to finish what I started 5 years earlier. It took a lot of work, but just about one year later Fairfield County Central finally went live.
In the 10 years since it first hit the internet, this site has succeeded in its’ goal to help small, locally-owned businesses in Fairfield County, CT have some kind of web presence.
As the internet has matured, people have seen the effects of shifting their spending to online. Many people wonder “Where have all the local businesses gone?”. Now it’s true that there are a lot of factors at play, but I think we can all agree that the smart money is spent locally.
During the summer of 2018, I realized the time was right to reconsider what this site could, and should be. I’ve rebuilt the site entirely, implementing a clean, uncluttered, and user-friendly design. It now provides much greater functionality than ever. Every listing has been optimized for mobile and SEO. With the addition of several new content areas, this site is an extremely powerful and cost-effective tool for local business.
I’ve also added new directories for public schools, charitable organizations & volunteer opportunities, places of worship and municipalities.
The mission of this site is to help every local business and civic-minded organization connect with their community. Too many sites try to be all things to all people, this site is different. My pledge is that this site maintains its focus on its mission. Of course, I can’t do it alone. I invite you to follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter and sign up for the newsletter. As always, I’m open to feedback. If you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know.
Thank you,
Todd S. Jones
